Enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle on the Canadian Prairies it is possible to take a 5 mile horseback ride and not meet a single neighbor. Privacy and freedom of movement not enjoyed by much of
the population any more! Against this backdrop I spin, dye and knit various fibers, always eyeing that pet Llama and scheming...

Why I Love Wool
DID YOU KNOW? Unlike synthetic fibers, wool is fire retardant. Up until recently, the blankets firefighters used to rescue people from burning buildings were made of tightly woven wool. This is because wool will only burn if it is held on a flame and immediately stops burning if the flame is removed. Synthetics only need to be exposed to high heat before they combust (they don't even need an open flame) and will continue to burn even after being removed from the heat source. This makes synthetics HIGHLY DANGEROUS for infant bedding and clothing (if they're around smokers) because burning synthetics will actually melt right onto skin and continue to burn even after the flame has gone out.
Wool can be stretched up to 1/3 longer than it's resting length and still snap back into shape!
Wool is a 100% renewable resource that does not require chemicals or consumable energy to produce!
Superwash wool can be machine washed and dried without worry, making it easy care - perfect for infant wear & blankets!
With all the advances in sheep breeds (like Merino and Blue Face Leicester) plus the greater availability of specialty fibers like Alpaca, the days of "scratchy" wool are over!
Books I Recommend
Lovely children's books! All the illustrations are made of felted wool! Unique gifts!!
Chronicles of the Lazy Knitter: PhatFiber Samples Witching Hour
PhatFiber Samples Witching Hour
This month's PhatFiber Sampler Box theme is the Witching Hour. I get such a charge out of the PhatFiber Group Ravelry thread for the month's box. So many of the contributors post pictures of things that inspire the colors or designs they create. Most of the time I really get a feel for the theme - most of the time. This month all the pictures everyone posted were witches, witches and more witches... yawn! Somehow I just couldn't get into it. I've always thought of witches as a more juvenile obsession so I decided to go into a more sideline theme. Mythical and still more or less "on topic".
DRAGONS!! Yippee! I used these dragons in the next larger size for my Box samples. All the markers I made for my Etsy Shop are on 8mm rings so they're the perfect size for 6mm and under needles. I made a total of 7 different styles of dragon stitch markers and posted them the first week of October. There are different styles and sizes and colors of dragons, some with beads, some without. I had waaaay too much fun doing this. What I wish is I made some money from it and maybe had a little less fun! LOL!! Ya, not likely! Oh well! I suppose I'm no different than anyone else with Christmas around the corner, hoping to glean a few extra sheckles from applying a little more elbow grease.... Anyways, here's another set to hopefully tickle your fancy!

Those are gorgeous! Now I just have to go through the couch cushions to dig up some money that isn't budgeted somewhere else. I hope that you sell out and then make more. As soon as I can, I will order some. I collect dragons. Reply to this
