Other Auction Booty

At first glance were you as excited as I was to see this trunk? I am a terrible trunk junkie and everything about this beauty had me in a lather at the auction! I was shocked that I got it for only $45 but since it was the only one there and it has a humped top there really wasn't much interest in it - lucky me!
It's biggest flaw is the 2 missing latches from the front. Otherwise, all the wood is intact as well as all the original metal, all the metal badges are there and can you believe it - the original leather handles are on it and in excellent shape! Although the original interior paper is pretty much crumbled the wood, especially the bottom, is all sound!

I don't suppose I need to tell you that it is going to become a stash holder once I've lined the interior with aromatic cedar! I know any antique-o-philes are going to cringe when I say I plan to spruce this thing up a bit but I didn't buy it for the antique value, I bought it because it's beautiful and I plan to use it. The metal is in need of a bit of tremclad to stop the rust and the wood is terribly dry and will benefit from being oiled. These 2 simple things will ensure it has a long useful life in my studio. I'll post pictures once I'm done. Before I close though I'll show you a close-up shot of the beautiful metal exterior. It's a gorgeous embossed pattern, something I've never seen before on a trunk like this so I feel especially delighted to have obtained it! Cheers all!

Love the trunk! I have the old trunk which held all my great grandmother's belongings when she immigrated to the US at age 13. It is currently holding my yarn stash! Well, most of it...

OMG !!! I want one too !! I probably wouldn't be able to keep it very long (my godmother LOVES antiques), but still, I want one. Imagine all the pretty yarn in it !! I'll keep the idea in mind in case I found one. Thanks for the idea !

What a treasure of a trunk -a "treasure chest" for sure! The metal on it is beautiful. I am an antiquer, but did not cringe at your plans for sprucing it up. I think items should be used and really liked what you want to use it for. Perfect! I did like that you don't plan on painting the exterior in any way 'cuz I think that would have caused many cringes! Please do show pictures of the results of your efforts.

Congrats, worth the $45 and then some. Love the embossed metal. Makes me wonder what ever happened to my Dad's old trunk, but it was nothing like this.
