Wensleydale and Online Magazines

We have had a spate of evening thunder showers here which means every time I've sat down to blog for the last few nights our internet has been too poor to use the interface. The (daily, apparently) storm started even earlier today but our satellite internet seems to be holding it's own for now so I'm on the keyboard! The forecast is for 3" of rain tonight! Eeeep!
Since I seemed to have missed Friday Freebies yet again I thought I'd start off today with the links to the 3 best online knitting magazines I know of. Each has their latest issue up from August. If you're not subscribed to their email notification, here's the links for you!

In the "thinning out the stash" department I had an interesting little hank of Wensleydale fiber. The strange thing about it is that it is very heavy for it's small size. The hank of fiber was easily half the volume of a 4 oz twist of pretty much any other wool you could name. I know Wensleydale is a long wool breed so you definitely don't want to wear it next to your face but it reminds me of Cotswold for it's luster and smoothness. The only thing I didn't like about this fiber is the way it was dyed. The color changes were painfully short for my taste and with my ever present obsession to preserve colors in my handspun it made for, well, NOT very relaxing spinning and plying!

The upside is that I really liked the subdued color palette and when I finally had it all plied I was quite pleased with the finished yarn - what little of it there was!

A 4.2 oz skein yet only 230 yds of 3-ply! It will make dandy mittens or an awesome felted tote, or something! It has found a spot in my Etsy Shop like most of the yarns I've spun this summer. I seem to be more partial to keeping my naturals and parting with my fancies! Fickle but consistent! LOL! Cheers all!
