PhatFiber Sampler Box Spice Market

I have to admit I am somewhat embarrassed to be so late in posting about the May box! In my defense I must say that I didn't get it until after the Canada Post strike at the end of June. Even so, it's now nearly the end of July... what can I say? So without further ado, here is the PhatFiber Sampler Box for May: Spice Market.

You know, even if the parcel with the business cards wasn't on the top I think I'd still open it first. It's sort of an introduction to the whole box. Into the Whirled had the clever idea of making their business card into a handspun yarn tag with a list of details to fill in on the back - nice! There's always something to learn! Because the theme is Spice Market there was an adjustable measuring spoon too - just the right size for spices!

Almost my whole box was fiber! I was delighted! Three contributors sent natural fiber samples from their own livestock: Southern Mystic sent raw Jacob wool in dark chocolate and caramel, Fiber Fancy sent salt & pepper Alpaca blended with Corriedale X wool, Wool Gypsy Fiber Arts sent some dark brown and tan colored Suri Alpaca locks. These are all beautiful fibers! Very high quality with a pleasant hand! Stash Enhancement sent (I could hardly believe it) a sample of 100% pure Vicuna! The first I've ever touched! Believe me, it lives up to it's reputation!

All of the fibers were lovely (and only two were noticeably scratchy, although it could be the dye and washing might help that), my two absolute favorites were the art batt fiber samples sent by Knotty Ewe and Dyet Yarns - yummy!

There were not many yarn samples in my box but the one that astonished me was the one from Lanitium ex Machina which included not one but four mini yarn skeins! 2 superwash blends and two silk blends! The original colorways are very earhty and there are 4 different weights represented. It was a pretty huge promotional package for her shop and her blog with draws and other promotional schemes. I don't know how many samples like this she sent for boxes but I can't help thinking this was an expensive endeavor in both time and materials! I wish her success!
The pattern is for a crocheted beanie from Wooly Bits Studio and included a stitch marker designed for crochet - very unique!

And the award for innovation in packaging goes to these beautiful presentations:
Bottom right, Into the Whirled, Curry in a Hurry, beautifully layered Merino combed top,
Center Bottom, A Dyeing Wish  layered fiber modeled after the colors of the Penta Pepper,
Far left, Fleecemaker's Fibers, Li'l Hot Batts rolled up and in the colors of hot peppers.
And photo top, my favorite, a sheer drawstring bag of purple chiffon with two bundles of plump singles yarn in gorgeous colors, one red, one rainbow, from Wildethyme Art - simply elegant! Good enough to eat even!

So the May box was spectacular! Judging by the sample previews I've seen on the PhatFiber Ravelry group, the July box is shaping up to be just as great!
