Non-Typical Friday Freebies

I thought I'd give you something other than sweaters, shawls and wraps!

This busy little sock is Primrose from Knitty AND their new First Fall issue is up too! ("Primrose" will give you the sock pattern, "Knitty" will give you the First Fall issue). The intricate textured pattern must be quite absorbing to knit and it's certainly more concentration than I'm interested in giving a sock these days, but it's so pretty I thought, Hey, someone's sure to like it and cast it on!

In the "I must be crazy" department I have been thinking about the possibility (read: maybe a year from now) of getting a Knitter's Loom, or a table loom with a minimum 24" wide weave to make "real" dishtowels because I'm SO sick of the 12" wide trash in stores. While this is still in the back of my mind, I ran across this crochet pattern for dish towels (not the common-as-grass dish cloths) from Lion Brand. I like the idea of plush cotton but I can't help wondering that maybe they could be made in a wider, longer size with a finer gauge yarn and become something quite serviceable.... Hmmmmm.....

And last but certainly not least in tonight's off-the-wall selection is the Soft Linen Cafe Curtain from Classic Elite Yarns. One thing I like is the simplicity of this design. It would certainly be possible for the crazed lace knitter to make the entire thing in a complicated fancy stitch that they could then hang and admire every day over a favorite window. Made in 100% linen it would hold it's blocking and last virtually forever! But for more modest knitters, especially those with time constraints, the entire solid panel could be done on a light gauge knitting machine and then the lace edging added by hand knitting. (What a cheat, eh?) Lots of potential for bast-fiber based yarns and unique indie dye jobs!
I hope there is something here to tickle your fancy or inspire you! Cheers all! I'm off to enjoy the new issue of Knitty!

Been wanting to do one for my kitchen window, but intimidated by the time to do it. I am the Queen of UFOs.
How's the post going in your neck of the woods? Resolved yet?
