Sock Yarn One Skein Wonders

I appreciate that this book may be "old news" in the publishing world but it's a fairly new acquisition of mine. Is it worth the purchase price? In a word, YES - totally! If you're kinda' dumb like me and have sock yarn you absolutely know you will never knit into socks then this is a good book for you! My only suggestion is they could have included a few more shawl patterns. If you're not too into shawls you'll like this book even better!
Since
I also own the original "101 One Skein Wonders" and "101 Designer One
Skein Wonders" I had reservations about how many more original patterns
they could come up with. What I forgot was how many more yards of yarn
there is in one skein when the gauge is finer! It certainly opened a
whole new vista on what could be made!
Bear in mind, many of these are NOT "quick knits", not only because of the fine gauge but there is an abundance of delicious textures and lace stitches in many of these projects. And while there are lots of hat, sock, mitten/glove and wristwarmer patterns, the baby/toddler garments are adorable! The shawl patterns they do have are beautiful and challenging, meaning they are not all kerchief triangles in a lace stitch.
Are there any real duds? Yup! My picks are the hand lotion pump cozy (complicated and totally unnecessary), the lampshade cover (WHY?) and the hanging ornaments (complicated and not even that nice looking). If I had no life and no prospects of one.... maybe I might cast one of them on!
Favorites? The Petal Shawlette, a gorgeous lacy thing in self striping sock yarn with a really nice lace edging and the Wisteria Arbor shawl, not just because of the color but because the scalloped lace makes it's own ornate edging! Clever!
The strange thing is, I love these books but have yet to cast on a single project from one. However that doesn't stop me from admiring the designs and loving (or hating) how a particular yarn looks knit up. The only book in the series I don't own is the Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders. Maybe I'll treat myself for Christmas....
