Enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle on the Canadian Prairies it is possible to take a 5 mile horseback ride and not meet a single neighbor. Privacy and freedom of movement not enjoyed by much of
the population any more! Against this backdrop I spin, dye and knit various fibers, always eyeing that pet Llama and scheming...

Why I Love Wool
DID YOU KNOW? Unlike synthetic fibers, wool is fire retardant. Up until recently, the blankets firefighters used to rescue people from burning buildings were made of tightly woven wool. This is because wool will only burn if it is held on a flame and immediately stops burning if the flame is removed. Synthetics only need to be exposed to high heat before they combust (they don't even need an open flame) and will continue to burn even after being removed from the heat source. This makes synthetics HIGHLY DANGEROUS for infant bedding and clothing (if they're around smokers) because burning synthetics will actually melt right onto skin and continue to burn even after the flame has gone out.
Wool can be stretched up to 1/3 longer than it's resting length and still snap back into shape!
Wool is a 100% renewable resource that does not require chemicals or consumable energy to produce!
Superwash wool can be machine washed and dried without worry, making it easy care - perfect for infant wear & blankets!
With all the advances in sheep breeds (like Merino and Blue Face Leicester) plus the greater availability of specialty fibers like Alpaca, the days of "scratchy" wool are over!
Books I Recommend
Lovely children's books! All the illustrations are made of felted wool! Unique gifts!!
Chronicles of the Lazy Knitter: PhatFiber Samples for March Sweet Shop
PhatFiber Samples for March Sweet Shop
It's always frustrating when the mail lets you down! I have been trying to plan ahead with my PhatFiber samples and March's theme of Sweets Shop has really got the Phiberistas bubbling! Visually it's going to be a stunning box! I've SO enjoyed going on Ravelry and seeing the samples that have been posted! Whether or not I'll get any in my box remains to be seen but it's sure been inspiring me to make my samples as top notch as possible! All the more reason to get upset when I've ordered parts that don't show up in time to make the samples! Grrrr! Although some of the contributors interpreted Sweet Shop more as Bakery and made pastry/tea shop inspired samples all I could think of was penny candy. I made the first half of my samples with these yummy resin peppermint swirls. The accent beads are supposed to be black licorice jujubes and jawbreakers.
The second style were supposed to have enameled candy charms for dangles but a week after the resin peppermints came the enameled charms still hadn't shown up and I couldn't just make the stitch markers without them because if the charms didn't come I'd have empty loops on the bottom. As it turned out they still hadn't arrived by Friday, my absolute latest cut off day so I made them up with headpins without dangles. I was VERY disappointed! These are Cinnamon Red Hots with 4 flavors of peppermint/spearmint hard candies. While they're still cute, they're just not as nice as I was hoping.
So I made almost 100 packages up with Red Hots and Hershey's Kisses and sent them off yesterday. I'm still pouting... a little. I know I can still make up stitch markers properly for my shop with the enameled charms as I don't post Box Samples for sale until the 15th of the month, right before the boxes go on sale and there's lots of time yet before that. Next week my February sampler box should be arriving and the week after that I'll be getting my April Box samples ready - Butterflies and Flutterbys - BOY am I ready for THAT box! I already have all my parts and I just need an afternoon to commit to assembly (isn't there always a catch? LOL!!) I've been struggling like a drowning man trying to get Quickbooks to import sales invoices from iif files and not having much success. I've been on the QB Help forums but it's the question of having literally hours to spend (which I don't) reading old posts and hoping to find something that will help. So this is where I'm hoping that someone reading this will magically have a solution.... yes... well... we all have our wild little fantasies, don't we? So that's been the start to my week - hoping yours is going better! Cheers all!

Hi Monica, It looks like you are having fun with your PhatFiber Samplers and they really do look like yummy candy! I will ask DH about your Quickbooks question as he is a Tax Specialist and has used that program. Reply to this
