What's New Off The Wheel

I have been trying really hard to stick to my spin-from-my-stash resolution but every once in a while I get sidetracked by something on Etsy. This time the something was some 100% Alpaca batts from Distant Star Alpacas. I think I developed an appetite for stripey batts from the Christmas Gift exchange and the earthiness of the yellow and two browns appealed to me. It's funny because I seldom touch anything yellow or orange - they just don't "do it" for me. Maybe it was the contrast, I don't know but it didn't take me long to get through these balled up batts!

I spun them for two ply, so not too thin. It's been almost 2 years since I wound singles off a bobbin into a center pull ball because it was a snarly disaster so I figured maybe enough time had passed I could try again! It seems my singles are not so over twisted as they used to be because they wound off quite nicely and made a pretty tame ball!

I was quite prepared for the center to turn into a rat's nest. To my great joy it didn't! Plying went pretty smoothly, right to the end! Wow! I ended up with 3.8 oz, 155 yds Aran weight 2 ply. I call it Chocolate Bumble Bee!

I'm normally a blue and green gal, but those are beautiful. I would love to touch them. Thanks for the eye candy.

    Hi Monica!
In regards to your question about the Finn and Gotland fleeces. We only have a small flock right now (will grow by at least 6 this year though) so next year there will be %Gotland and Finn fleece for sale. It will be covered so the prices will be on the higher side depending on the fleece.
