Starting Off The New Year

I had grand plans to start off the new year with some witty and entertaining posts but there have been SO many things going on around here 10 pm rolls around and I'm bushed! Plus our satellite internet has been just garbage lately so it takes forever for pages and interfaces to load etc etc which is why I never posted yesterday - it would have taken forever!
Speaking of the post, I just got my first issue of Yarn Maker magazine from the UK! I can see myself staying subscribed to this publication for a looong time, provided the issues remain as good as this one! There are a number of things I especially like about it. First, it doesn't have that "slick" professional feel that a magazine like SpinOff has. Don't get me wrong, SpinOff is a good spinning magazine but this one has a folksy, let's have a cuppa' and a chat feel to it. There are lots of sheepy color photos (it's printed on larger size glossy paper) and down-to-earth technical articles plus the usual professional layout and great looking ads but there's just something more cloak-and-shepherd's-crook about it, rather than a three-piece-suit computer jockey feel. That really appeals to me, having spent more than a decade as a shepherd/sheep farmer. What also makes it fresh is the perspective, coming from the UK and European influence where there is absolutely nothing "new" about sheep, fiber and spinning. Maybe, it's also because it comes from a smaller publisher. Interweave, who publishes SpinOff also publishes a dozen other magazines plus books, videos, TV shows etc. There's a lot to be said for putting all your TLC into one baby - and most of it's good! So I say, "Well done!" to Yarn Maker and many more to come, I hope! Cheers all!

I'm the Sandy waiting for one of those
mysterious packages. The anticipation
and predisposition to enjoy/use the contents are bumped up by the excitement
of the grand daughters who will hover,
ooh and aah, want to fondle, look through, etc. At least one of them (there are 2) will ask me to tell you thank you with my reply to the package.
Their pleasure enhances mine and so it
goes, not a viscious circle, a pleasure
circle. After the 3 week holiday break,
we are now on day 3 of most unusual "snow days" here in SC. Thanks
for the "tease" photo, I'll show it to
the girls (anyone who will look) and we
will go back to the prize Chronicle and
pick what we think might be on the way.
Talk about a multi-pleasure offering...!
Thanks again for the ongoing pleasure
of the mysterious package.

I am definitely going to check out that magazine..thanks for the info. I have grown very bored with Spin Off (always the same stuff) and am not renewing my subscription.

You made our day! I called our post office to inquire about tracking our
package now that it was in the USA and
found that the mailman was on his way with the parcel.
We opened the package immediately; Gabby
(7 yo) liked the stitch markers, Matty
(4 yo) took the book and sat down on the floor to browse. She wasn't sure about the stitch markers as the ones I
have been using are utilitarian (no bling) - wait until she sees them in action. I am hard pressed to select a
favorite so I'll cope with enjoying everything. The note cards will probably be used when a "knit gift" is
sent in the mail. The girls had one or
two regrets; no spindle, no roving, no
yarn (both are learning to knit). Every knitter needs/wants more yarn and
the tools to make yarn.
Thank you again for brightening a damp,
gray day.
Sandy, Gabby & Matty
