PhatFiber Gift Swap Box

Being a Phattie I had the opportunity to sign up for the "Holiday" gift exchange. The nicest thing is that everyone swaps with someone different. My box went to a different person than the one I got my gift from. I thought it was a pretty cool idea! I sent off my box the first week of December because it went to the USA and I wanted to be extra sure it arrived beforehand! I sent a braid of superwash top from StoneandString , 2 skeins of chunky Llama/wool from Wild Geese , a lace weight spindle, candy canes, a snowman with a light-up tummy, mini-knitting needles shawl pins and some needle protectors and other knitting notions. I was tempted to send chocolate but I have a friend who gets migraines from it and I myself have food allergies so I'm scared to send anything with chocolate or nuts to a total stranger. The gift value was supposed to be at least $50. I have since learned, from watching the Ravelry posts on the boxes that some gals are going waaaaay over that! I almost made me feel bad. There were so many other things I could have put in the box but I'm a follow-the-rules-and-everyone's-happy sort of gal. It never occurred to me that the rule would be just a suggestion to some people! Oh well, live 'n learn for next year...
I have to admit to being impatient mostly because curiosity just kills me! Mid-week my box arrived. My Phattie swapper is Julie of Crafty Dragon Creations. Anything you open that looks like this and then starts with chocolates HAS to be good!

And not one but TWO funky art batts that will really stretch me out of my spinning comfort zone! I'm SO excited about the challenge! One from Julie's Shop CraftyDragon , the other from ButtterflyGirlDesigns .

A totally cool Polymer Clay spindle that I think is just wonderful! There is glitter in the green stripes so it twinkles and sparkles as it spins!

A roomy green padded project bag I already have a job for, a box of tea lights and incense (I just want to know HOW she knew I loved these??) a decorated knitting theme plate I will probably use when beading, and, if you look at the handle of the knitting bag, a shawl pin in colors & textures I LOVE...

I saved the best for last... it brought tears to my eyes, I kid you not... she knit me a lace shawl - YES - a soft lacey keep-my-neck-warm-in-my-favorite-colors lace shawl! "Thank-you Julie!" barely conveys it! WOW!

I always follow your links because they lead to such wonderful places. Today though I had the disappointing result that Stone and String is no longer a seller. Do they have another site? Have a Merry Christmas!

Wow, you raked it in. I agree, way over the limit and the scarf on top of all that! Think I will get in on that next year. Haven't been raving lately as school is soooo hectic, but no school until the new year, so Merry Christmas and enjoy a happy healthy new year!

I am trying to figured out pattern (which ever one you consider the easiest) for at least one of the knitted turtlebacks. I have the worse kind of MS & that makes my cognitive skills go along with my motor skills. I know you are a busy person, but I wondered if you could help me (by shortcut so it won't take up much of your precious time)figure out to make the one you consider the easiesiest if it would be faster (I'm not talking about breaking the copygight of course, just some instructional help on how -to do it. I can't figure it out. I've asked for other's help, & so far no offers, of if one of your readers would help if you can't & you could give them my email. I would really appreciate your help. My MS just makes it harder for me to learn new things, in fact, when I knit or crochet, I have to have the how-to book next to me on the bed, cause I forget suddenly how to make a knit stitch & have to read & look at the pic so I can make the stitch again.Would luv the help, as it is something different & supposed to be easy (once I learn it); in fact, if it was in plain ST. st that would probably make it easier & instructions go faster. (I already tried that on my own, & still coulcn't get it right, so maybe with help I can. Karen Carroll
