Finished Two Cowls

I finally made time to use that lovely Cherub by Wool in the Woods (far right). I hauled out my old reliable Singer HK100 and used it to knit the main body of  not one, but two cowls in plain stockingette. I was right about the colors - they look great in stockingette! I used the drop-stitches-and-reform them technique to make 3x2 ribbing for the top and bottom hem of one cowl and for the top of the next cowl. It's certainly faster than knitting the ribbing by hand but no matter what, it's just never the same stretchy springy ribbing you get from knitting it by hand. For some unknown reason I decided to finish the last hem in hand knit ribbing - which took almost longer than it did to knit them both by machine! But it meant I had sufficient yarn for seaming and no wasted yards at the end because I started casting off mid-round and had an almost perfect finish with only a few inches of yarn left when I was done.

The longer one was originally intended for a certain skidoo enthusiast who is now on crutches. The shorter one is a gift for a city girlfriend. I washed them and they melted like butter - yup! Superwash for sure! LOL! Can you tell the bottom hem on the shorter one was hand knit? You can see right away how it "pulls" in just a little - amazing how something that simple can turn out so differently! Anyways, it felt really good to see that lovely soft yarn knit into something that will see a lot of wear! One thing's for sure - I'd have never knit them by hand! That yarn was waaaay too fine for my hand knitting patience! Cheers all!
