And There's An End Of It!

Remember that tortuous lot of Icelandic skirting? Well these are the batts I carded from what I was able to salvage. It was lumpy and unruly so I spun the singles as thick 'n thin slubby as I could, which probably isn't nearly as much as would have been appropriate but I'm still at the "fine and even" stage of learning to spin. Eventually I hope I can spin as slubby as I please but I felt that this was a promising start. Having such poor fiber, I think, was a help.

This is the nice little wad of fawn roving Barb included with the yarns. It is wool and I suspect Llama because of the long guard hairs in it. I spun it as finely as possible and plied it with the slubby Icelandic singles. The end result is a moderately respectable yarn, rather primitive in appearance and not in the slightest bit soft. As I predicted (and even with the addition of the tan singles) there isn't even 4 ounces that came from the pound of "spinning fiber" I was sold. In fact this skein only weighs 93 grams! Total yardage is 183. So much for buying spinning fiber on eBay! LOL!! I guess you really can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear! Cheers all!
