Making Some Headway

Another job I've made some progress on, is getting stuff finished to put into my Etsy shop. Although I'm getting a little plying done, I'm not going to have much handspun to put in it for a while. That's a bit disappointing but I have to make those work socks the priority in my "me" time so even spinning is on the sidelines just now *sigh*!

These are some of the drop spindles I finished on the weekend. I think they look like a bouquet - such a variety of colors! Most of them are stone but the red ones are cinnabar with a traditional Chinese Dragon in high relief - I sort of have a soft spot for them. I love ornate things - they just have a superior look about them - like someone took the extra time to add that special something to elevate the heart. That's the feeling I want to impart to my spindles; a simple tool with a bit of elegance and personality, not just good functionality.
It's been fun and a bit of a challenge to build them but you just can't beat that feeling you get when you twist a little fiber on a spindle you've made yourself! And the stone ones have such a nice weight to them - they spin longer than spindles of any other material that size - simple physics, that, but significant in the application!
I have lots of parts yet so I'm hoping to have another assembly and testing session this weekend. I have all the finished ones photographed and listed in my Etsy shop now. It's a nice feeling to have the inventory growing too, especially with the holiday season not far ahead. Just for once I'd like to feel like I did everything I could to see my hobbies be a little self-sufficient! Oh the things we do to support our habit! LOL! Cheers all!
:o)

If I would spin with spindles, I would have a big collection already, because I would not be able to resist all those beautiful spindles out there. Now you have made some really lovely ones too! Good luck!
