My Next 6 Weeks Arrived

The sock yarn arrived from Little Knits on Friday so my kindhearted fiber-loving DD#1 spent quite a bit of time winding the skeins into center pull balls for me. I decided to try a different blend of yarns for these socks. I mean, my DS got 15+ months wear out of them but even though the Emu wool I used was superwash, they still shrunk over time, even with only being washed in cold water and laid out to dry. So now, in addition to being slightly smaller and a bit difficult to pull on, they are also developing thin spots which I suspect have to do with the fact that they've shrunk and are subject to more friction than when they fit better.
The yarns I purchased are; Cascade Heritage sock yarn, 75% Merino superwash and 25% nylon, in solid shades of gray, beige, navy and chocolate brown and Schaefer Yarn's Abigail handpainted, 20% Alpaca, 60% Merino superwash and 20% nylon in 3 different multi shades. I didn't set out to purchase more than one color in either of these yarns but because they were clear outs I could only buy what was in stock, which turned out to be only a few skeins of each shade. I think the gray was the only color I got 6 of. I couldn't care less that the Abigail was handpainted, I chose it mostly for the Alpaca content to add some softness and hopefully balance out the nylon.

I had to laugh at myself. Once I had the yarn assembled I couldn't remember how to start! Not brilliant - I admit - but I did put the "How To" as a blog post last year so I looked it up and printed it out. Nothing like saving yourself! LOL!!
So each sock it taking 3 strands of Heritage, 1 strand of Abigail and one strand of DK weight superwash (various brands and colors). Once I got going it was pretty familiar territory. My DS was pretty excited, actually, even though we went through the "It's not thick enough" merry-go-round again and I had to remind him about the cardboard sock I knit him last time just to prove there IS such a thing as too thick! I made sure I chose a basket I like... I'm going to be looking at it for a while!
