Black Wool Fleece Has Arrived!

The black fleece from Wooly Wool of The West that I have been waiting for has arrived! I was SO pleased that Val even had one! I need the black wool to send away to have blended with my black llama fiber. Val offered me a great deal on the whole fleece - I just couldn't turn it down! I was astounded at how she shipped it. I swear she vacuum sucked all the air out of it and fit it into an amazingly small box! I got such a charge out of how it looked when I got it out of the box - it was so airless it kept the square shape! Gosh the kids and I laughed!

The ewe was a Rambouilette/Clun Forest cross and Val says this is her last pure black fleece as her wool is lightening as she matures. The last ram we had for our commercial flock was a Rambouilette so I had a pretty good idea what this wool would be like. It's lovely! It was well skirted and weighed about 6 lbs. Only the very tips were brown. I divided it in half and sent 3 lbs to Twisted Sisters with the black llama fiber for washing, de-hairing and blending, and sent the other 3 lbs off to A & B Fiberworks for cleaning and combing.
It has occurred to me that it's starting to look like my fiber interests lately have slid into a "natural neutrals" rut of browns and whites but I assure you, it feels good after nearly 6 months of nothing but blue! Unfortunately what you've seen so far doesn't really comprise everything I've been doing lately - ask my groaning Paypal account! (more on that later...) LOL!! Oh well, you only live once...
