Celtic Triad Friday Freebie

For anyone not on their mailing list, the new pre-Fall edition of Knitty is up. There must be a stampede there today because the server is slow and the pattern pages are taking forever to load. And if you're not on their email list, you should be, because it makes you eligible for their free prize draws. GO do it! LOL!
As you know I seldom post sock patterns but this particular pattern, the Celtic Triad is a MUST knit for sockaholics, just for the novelty-knit factor! It has probably one of the strangest constructions I have ever seen - it is knit from the heel! Just think of one of those Andean-style earflap hats and you've pretty much got the mental picture of how this sock starts out. Then stitches are picked up around both edges and knit in one direction for the toe and the other for the cuff. To the Lazy Knitter this sounds like a lot of work for "just a sock" but I really like the celtic triad icon on it so it's worth downloading just for that one detail, I'd say.
The instructions have excellent diagrams for the construction, in case you can't visualize it. You could probably knit the foot in regular stockingette if you don't like reverse and make the cuff in a different stitch pattern too. It's really quite a vanilla pattern, which is not a bad thing since it's a "new" concept. I can't see myself being in a hurry to cast it on but who knows, maybe you? LOL! Cheers all!
