Functional Friday Freebies

You can't have enough bags to go shopping - no way, no how! I just love bag patterns! Use brightly colored cotton, linen or hemp yans for durability. I love knitting them because gauge means nothing. You just cast on and go and enjoy watching the lovely lacy construction flow from your needles or hook. Talk about your "Zen" project!

This gorgeous creation, the Province Summer String Bag is from Classic Elite. It boasts a solid bottom and sturdy but expandable lace sides. What's not to love?
Not into bags? No biggie! Here's a bigger project to keep you busy, the Diagonal Stripe Afghan from Lion Brand.

What I like about this pattern is it's very easy to accommodate the amount of yarn you have on hand. Divide your yarn in half. The pattern starts at the corner and increases so when you're done half your yarn you go into decrease mode and finish the second half. I think it would lend itself well to using up odds and ends of similar weight yarn too. There are so many possibilities with this basic design!
