Something Different For Friday Freebie

I felt like offering something completely different today. Good, but different. Everyone has yarn in their stash that didn't meet their expectations texture-wise. Something unforgivably scratchy, something synthetic, maybe a fleece that was supposed to be nice but was actually quite coarse - you get the idea. Well even if you're not a weaver, you can still make a rug with it. In fact this rug can be knitted or crocheted. The PDF link I have here is only for the knitted version but if you want the crochet version just go to Lion Brand and put in Grass Rug and you'll find both versions.

The great thing about this pattern is you can make the "grass" as long or as short as you like. You can leave it looped or you can cut it like shag carpet. If you like the idea of a knitted rug but are short of time, here's a short cut, how about knitting it with chunky yarn or quadruple strands (or more) on big needles? You are only limited by your imagination! Think color! Think "I can finally use up that yarn I hate and stomp on it too!!" LOL!
Okay, let's take a detour from the yarn stash now, while we're thinking about "green" and something to put on the floor. Here's a tutorial for Rags for Knitting . Yes, strips of fabric from things you no longer want or have outlived their fashion or usefulness. It's a terrific concept and easier to do than you think. The tutorial shows how to join the strips of fabric (NO sewing, NO glue!) and a super pattern for a half doily floor rug that will be just perfect for  the edge of your bed, your desk, the pet door, or??? There's also a free bathmat pattern on her website under "Interiors" on the left sidebar. A HUGE thank-you to CocoKnits for all this great rag knitting info!
Remember, it's garage sale season and there are lots of old sheets, cotton curtains, furniture covers etc etc available for super cheap! So have fun with this! Cheers!
