New Titles For The Library

Since I've been managing not to buy more yarn (let's ignore the fiber, shall we?) I thought it would be pretty safe to start getting digests from the Yahoo selling groups I belong to. One thing, for sure, it gives me some perspective on what value people place on their yarn and fiber. It seems (surprise, surprise) that specialty yarns, especially hand spun or hand dyed holds it's value pretty well when being re-sold in a de-stash and synthetic yarns are often given away (or near give-away prices) if the recipient will pay full postage! Certainly food for thought.
The previously high CDN/US $ exchange rate always played a prominent role as a deterrent for not increasing my stash of either yarn or fiber, especially because shipping rates from the USA are not low, so it only follows that I am more interested in the few ads from Canadians on these groups. It was from one such Canadian seller that I purchased this lot of books.

It's the Alden Amos Big Book of Handspinning for $18 that convinced me to buy this lot. I know what it sells for new at Interweave plus it's a thick hardcover book - great value! Needless to say it's not the type of book you just sit and read in one go so I imagine I will be going back to it often as a reference.  The Weaving Spinning and Dyeing book is also a thick hardcover. Although it's an older book it still has a lot to offer as far as technique and technical info - another good purchase. The thin softcover Spinning Designer Yarns book was tossed in for free by the seller. It's mostly text with line drawings and very few pictures but still has good basic info for the day I decide to take the plunge and ruin perfectly good fiber by trying to spin novelty yarns! LOL!  The video is Spinning Exotic Fibers and Novelty Yarns with Judith MacKenzie but I haven't had time to watch it yet. It includes camel, llama, alpaca, cashmere, angora, dog and quiviuet so I'm hoping to learn quite a bit from it. It's an older show with Judith MacKenzie (pre-Interweave) so I'm hoping it has more content and less styling.
I'm sure, with all the recent posts about fiber and books you're beginning to think I've done nothing but spend money the last 2 months! Not so! These are purchases I've made over the last 5 months or so, I'm only just getting around to posting about them now that there's not much to report on with my spinning and knitting. It's mostly because I'm pretty sure it would get boring fast to post about the most recent inch I've added to my Knit Forever sweater or my Terra Cotta tee... I am still working away on these things in my spare moments but they're a ways away from being post-worthy! It's still raining here, not necessarily a bad thing, but it means I can't shear my llama or wash any fleece until things dry out. Cheers all!
