May Long

May Long always comes as a welcome relief, especially because it gets so busy for me this time of year. It's also because my birthday always comes pretty much on this weekend. You would think it would make it easy for hubby to remember - not - but my children do and so do my extended family so it all comes out in the wash... In fact this year I got an early present from my older sister that came in the mail...

It's a Scholastic sold-in-schools-only book about a non-conformist easy-going sheep named Woolbur and his over-anxious parents - very funny - I laughed and laughed! Especially because I work with fiber and some of the things he does are such mind-boggling no-no's for wool.... It absolutely delighted me! What a great gift! Thanks sis!!
My other fiber-related gifts were the usual do-it-yourself gifts from hubby's cc... I wandered over to Discontinued Brand Name Yarn because I heard through the grapevine they had some non-yarn stuff available. I wasn't misinformed either - they had some discontinued dyes for both wool and plant fiber at really great prices AND - wonder of wonders -  some 100% fine Merino top from Cherry Tree Hill.

It was really really really hard to choose and afterwards I really regretted not getting more than I did. It was $18 for 8 oz - I've seen 4 oz hanks from indy dyers for that much or more! Needless to say it sold out quickly so when I thought I'd go back to get some more it was all gone. On the right are two different lots called Snake in the Grass, and Lavender and Lace which I will spin as all one lot. I really can't see much difference in the color palette except that one has more purple and the other has more tans. On the left are two lots of Meadow, my typical loves of blues and greens. It's really nice stuff and it will end up in my trunk for now. Once things slow down a bit (and my new book keeping system on Windows 7 is set up *ugh!*) I should have more time to spin.
I also picked up about a dozen pots of dye powder for both wool and plant fiber. I still have delusions of having time to get some dyeing jobs done this summer....  It's raining this weekend (isn't that always the way?) so I'm content to do some more 2-plying on the blue 4-ply cabled (and I'm almost ready to actually make some finished 4-ply!) and maybe knit some more on my terra cotta tee. Isn't it weird how, when you're really busy and you get a break you almost don't know which way to amuse yourself?? Yes, napping is always the first consideration ROFL! but not always practical! Hope your May Long is really enjoyable too! Cheers!

Love the roving. It will go so well together and those are my colors as well.
Protested at Trenton yesterday with other teachers and state workers as well as many, many seniors. In my preparing for the hour plus bus ride down, can you believe it? I packed no fibery ting to keep me busy. AGH!!!
