Friday Freebies For A Cool Spring

I don't know how your Spring is shaping up but ours is still pretty chilly with temps in the -5 Celcius range at night so the mornings are, well, let's just say "fresh", shall we? So here are two morning starters - very nice shrugs!

This Speckled Shrug from Lion Brand is generous sized and simple to knit! Just a folded rectangle, really, so it would whip up VERY fast on a knitting machine, since it's all stockingette stitch. You could showcase a spectacular art yarn with this one if you hand knit it - how about a boucle, thick 'n thin or novelty yarn? (sorry, I'm too lazy to suggest a textured pattern stitch, but if it's your thing, why not?)

And for crochet lovers, this Dolman Sleeve Shrug from Caron Naturally is an irresistable temptation! Such a beautiful lacey fabric it would be lightweight in spite of it's size. Although they crocheted it in a soft cotton blend I can see it in a silk/bamboo blend with a bit of a satiny sheen.
I think what I love best about shrugs is they give you the ease and comfort of a cardigan without all the hassle of sleeves, button bands and piecing - and if you machine knit the Speckled shrug it's fast PLUS there's no purling! LOL! It just doesn't get any better than that! Cheers!
