Giving In To (fortunately small) Temptation

Looking back over the year... yes, I know it's a little early for that but it's fall and I'm feeling retrospective.... I think I can congratulate myself that I've done pretty well not adding to my stash but rather working from it. To be honest, spinning helps because it adds another dimension to the entire fiber-love thing and from that perspective the whole yarn-acquisition appetite changes. Yarn is no longer an end in itself. Love of yarn transformed into love of the entire process of selecting fiber, drafting and spinning it and deliberately choosing the number of plies based on the single... and oh so much more... It completely changed how I look at yarn now, except maybe when it comes to color - which brings me to my recent indulgence...

Yes, it's quite the splash of color! I think that's why it grabbed my attention! It was a mixed lot on eBay.ca. I happened to see it when I was looking at something else from that seller. tsk! tsk! Shame on me - but it's SO lovely! Starting at the top left is a floppy luscious skein of hand dyed Blue Heron bulky rayon chenille in a colorway called "Deep Copper". The price tag says $36 (!!). Under it, on the bottom left is a small skein of Tahki hand dyed yarn called "Paradise", 64% cotton, 36% viscose (price tag $11.99). It's gorgeous but only 119 yards. It might stay in the "Admire Me" basket for quite a while! LOL! In the middle is one skein of Cherry Tree Hill supersock 100% Merino (typically in a weight I'll never knit into socks!). On the right hand side is a batch of Wool in the Woods "Helix" 97% cotton, 3% viscose which I'm planning to put on the needles fairly soon as I have a shawl idea for it. Considering the actual retail prices on these yarns I'd say I didn't do too badly paying $25 for the lot. Anyways, I feel 'purged of the urge' now so additional yarn purchases are not on the horizon - and I'm sticking to that! I have a snazzy splash of color to get me through the grey winter days ahead.... Cheers all!
