Fall Friday Freebies!

I don't know what it's like where you are but it's snowing here! Brrrr! It means I'm totally bummed out that my Luxury cabled sweater isn't finished because I'd sure like to wear it today!!   Yes, occasionally, being "Lazy" isn't all it's cracked up to be!
This is the kind of weather that makes these free patterns SO great! Two roasty toasty bundle-you-up-and-keep-you-warm projects!

The first is the Colorblock Capecoat from Takhi Stacey Charles. I SO totally love this coat! Can't you just imagine it in a bulky alpaca/llama blend or a super wash double strand boucle? I think it would be great even just to wrap up beside the fire with a good book too!

The second is the Saginaw fairisle coat with hood from Caron. I really like this pattern because the fairisle is showcased by having it in a solid panel. I think that projects that are ALL fairisle, especially in a small pattern, tend to detract from the colorwork. Sometimes "more" is just too much. Yes, there are exceptions but in a project this size I say "less is more". The overall texture is a really nice design feature too. It gives the fabric more bulk which traps more warm air and makes the whole unit more cohesive. A busy fairisle next to wide expanses of stockingette looks unbalanced. Edging it in dark colors is the perfect finish! Hope you feel inspired!  Enjoy!

Here in northern NJ, it is still cool enough for tee shirts in the afternoon, mornings are in the 50's, but we had a 40.
I have a 30 something cape from Ireland that was a real splurge at $150 US back then. It comes out every year, so it was worth it. Capecoat is similar in shape, but look at the back of her right arm, they cut it short. My cape, which is woven, is a huge rectangle with a slit up the front to the neck. No shaping and you can wear it with the fronts hanging down and possibly a belt over, not me, or drape one front over the other shoulder and use a shawl pin, etc...No pattern needed, and you can fill the rectangle with any design, cables, color blocks you want. I'll have to send you a pic. It hasn't come out this year yet. I bought it when I was a size 4, and now, well let's just say I'm no longer in the single digits and it always looks fab.

I wondered about that in the photo. What a strange design! I'll have to read through the pattern! Thanks!
Your cape sound wonderful! It's a good thing you live in NJ so there's no danger I'll pop over and ask to borrow it! LOL! I have some spectacular bulky singles wool that I want to make myself a similar garment out of. It's too heavy a yarn to use on the machine so it will have to be hand knit so maybe procrastination is the issue?? Thanks for the encouragement
