Friday Freebies!!

First, I want to say a very heartfelt thank-you to all of you who commented and sent emails after yesterday's post. Your kind sentiments are very special to me! Thank-you!
I want today's post to be much more light hearted and what could be more uplifting than free stuff?? To kick things off, the latest issue of Knitty and KnittySpin are up and there are some really awesome free patterns and articles in this issue!! They've revamped the website, so to browse, just click on "This Issue" for all the links. If you click on the "Patterns" link it will take to to a search of back issues.

This is the Hex Shawl and I'm seriously thinking "Hemp Yarn"! The pattern repeat seems fairly simple - something I could probably do without messing it up really badly! LOL!

This is the Riverbank Hood - it's like a hat, only it's a hood. While the colors are not my favorites, I really like the design. I think I'll use the Cascading Leaf lace pattern from the Fall Leaves Shawl in the latest issue of Spin Off (Fall 2009) instead of the one in this pattern. The lace pattern in Riverbank is just waaaay too big (for my taste) - it looks like it was chopped out of a different pattern and has only one complete repeat and half of the next one. I think a smaller pattern would look better. And no, in case you're wondering, I seldom look at a pattern and want to make it "as is" - go figure! Just one more of my personality quirks! I just KNOW I have something spectacular in my stash from Wild Geese to whip this up in! I put this in my "To cast on almost immediately" binder and it WILL be the next thing I cast on after I'm finished the sleeves on my Luxury Cabled sweater! Nothing like a little inspiration to get you over the "when will this be done?" hump!
The other freebie is from Knitting on the Net. It's 16 knitting related word jumbles - jumbled up words you un-jumble into knitting related words and then use some of those letters to make a knitting phrase or pun. The answers ARE also there so if you get stuck you don't have to despair! LOL! So if you like word puzzles, I hope you enjoy these! If not, there's always the latest issue of Knitty and KnittySpin to enjoy! Have a great weekend, everyone!

I agree with your take on the overly large design on the hoodie. Looks like they made a short scarf and seamed up one folded edge, forgetting that 1/3 of the pattern is now on the top of her head. I like the hoodie idea though, reminds me of the ones I wore as a kid and they were warm! Mine continued into a scarf at the edge so you could wrap it around your neck.
