Tools of the Trade 3 - and a Rant....

9 x 12 Watercolor. I've still been making a little time to paint. These are a rather old pair of hand cards I have in the cupboard. Since I've taken up working with fiber this is the closest they've come so far to actually doing any carding! LOL!
Bad thing #1: It seems like when it rains, it pours *sigh!* My laser printer had a rather unexpected seizure and suffered a premature death. All I can say is 'Thank goodness!' for Staples extended warranty! Unfortunately it means I won't have a new color laser printer until October so there's no way I'll have the new card sets posted to my Etsy Shop before then but at least they'll be available for Christmas shoppers.
Bad thing #2: It has also come to my attention that some of my watercolors have been used without permission and although this is the internet and I shouldn't be shocked, I still am. I thought knitters and spinners had at least some small semblance of respect for other people's work. I mean, this is worse than being a designer and having someone selling sweaters they've knit from your pattern. In this case, there was NO purchase at all, just the presumption that if it's on the internet, it's free game! What's more the scans I post to my blog are really low resolution so the pictures do not reflect the work very well - hardly a credit to the artist! I'm more or less resigning myself to the fact that I'm going to have to start defacing my watercolor posts with some sort of embedded logo to prevent people from stealing and using them. I mean, it was mentioned to me I should be flattered, but the point is I actually have a commercial copyright on my paintings to sell them as note cards and the use of the designs is exclusive to me - or at least it's supposed to be! At any rate it left me with a pretty unpleasant feeling - I mean, I write a blog to be entertaining, to share the odd insight and other good stuff I find and here people have come and simply taken something that belongs to me. Like having a knit night in your home and then your guests surreptitiously help themselves to items from your stash on their way out! Pretty shabby in my opinion!
Hope everyone else's week has been going better! Cheers all!
