Friday Freebie: Knit One Below Scarf
Another Friday freebie! I just got this book from Amazon.ca and I'm very much in love with the basic principle of this book. All the patterns center on the principle stitch of "Knit one below". I've always liked this stitch for the ribbed look it produces without purling. What really amazes me is what they've done with color, using this stitch! My favorite are the vertical stripes produced from knitting every other row with one of two different colors. Pair up a dark solid and a lovely variegated and you've got a super easy smash hit! Fairisle can go fly a kite - this is waaaay easier!! Ha ha! The sweater on the cover shows this look and every 5 rows, switch your colors - voila! Checkerboard! Amazing! (that's right - knit with only ONE color per row!)
Another kudos is for the truly lovely patterns. There are 36 patterns including some really pretty sweaters, the obligatory accessories like scarves & mitts, baby hats & blankies as well as - believe it or not - SOCKS! And the color combinations are really nice, not ugly or "colore nouveau" clashers.

I loved knitting this scarf. I wish I had more suitable thick yarn to make another. I've just looked through this book again a few days ago. I'm not quite sure what to knit from it next. I like the square shawl, maybe socks? Tere are too many nice patterns, I can't decide. :o) What are you going to knit from it?
