Pinwheel Hat
I did my usual cast on and began working in the round with 5 DPNs, making the increase at the end of each DPN. Oh... did I mention how much I HATE swatching to try and figure out how many stitches to cast on for the brim? It's SO much easier to just start at the top and measure. Pretty soon the diameter is the right size and then you stop increasing. Yes! Totally 'Lazy Knitter' style!! LOL!!

It really doesn't take long to make progress. I decided to try to make a sort of pinwheel design in the top by keeping the rust along the increases and increasing the multi stitches...

When I was done increasing I worked a dark round and then added beaded fringe, using the same K2 together, YO and weaving the ribbon in. I suppose it's a bit kitschy but you have to admit it matches the sweater!

And.... finished!!

Cute hat! I always have to follow a pattern for just about everything! I admire those that just change this and that or just knit and get that cute little hat!

You are right, the brim is always a problem. Clever girl to figure out starting at the top eliminates that. So simple, yet we are so used to conventions that it eluded me.
I've been reading INTERTWINED by Lexi Boeger, what an interesting book! Some of her yarns are too way out there for me, but her plying guides are worth a look and I'll be trying them.

I'm with you on the hat construction thing. I'd rather start small. Cute hat too! When will we see the pinwheel jacket?

I love that hat and can think of a few more in my family who would love it too - in different colours! I hope we'll get to see the completed sweater.
