Older Sister to the Rescue!

DD#1 was at 6's and 9's after finishing the last baby blanket and having a hard time deciding what to do next. While digging around she came up with DD#2's unfinished afghan and offered to finish it. DD#2 readily agreed and not much more was said... until DD#1 got down to business! She discovered that about 8 inches into the piece DD#2 started skipping the first stitch of each row and the blanket had creeped in on BOTH sides about 4 inches! So much for the mystery behind "I don't feel like doing any big projects right now." LOL!! She knew she'd have to rip back almost to the start and couldn't face having to try and undo the icicle stitch she was using!! DD#1 and I unfortunately were quite amused!! She and I debated what should be done. The afghan couldn't be continued in it's present state ... until I had a brain-wave. My youngest has a penchant for my "personal" wool blankie that I tuck myself in with under the sheets on cold nights (read: most of this winter). Maybe we could just finish the pattern rows in progress and cast it off, making a mini-blankie for him. Motion unanimously carried! (big surprise! LOL!)

The yarns used are Emu superwash in Forest (green/grey/black) and Autumn (brown/rust/black). (Forest is accurate in top pic - Autumn is accurate in bottom pic - couldn't get BOTH pics accurate, could I?? grr!) Of course Emu "melts" wonderfully in the wash and makes such a fluffy-limp blankie how could he help but love it?? DD#2 felt much better too. It had been quite a burden to carry that frustration, every time she looked at that project basket! Don't you just LOVE a happy ending?

I was thinking triangular shawl myself, but glad there was a rescue. All our mishaps should be so easy to resurrect. That is the pattern used in a blanket by a friend's mom so long ago. I sat with it on my lap until I figured it out. I had never seen extended stitches overlapping before. They had to be neat and orderly! LOL
I was a kid, what did I know and the mom had passed, so we couldn't ask.

Triangular shawl? Now why didn't I think of that?? But really, I think it would have been too narrow at the top... however I'll certainly file that idea away for future disasters! LOL!!
Yes, she fell in love with that icicle stitch and has used it before. It's so pretty!
