Enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle on the Canadian Prairies it is possible to take a 5 mile horseback ride and not meet a single neighbor. Privacy and freedom of movement not enjoyed by much of
the population any more! Against this backdrop I spin, dye and knit various fibers, always eyeing that pet Llama and scheming...

Why I Love Wool
DID YOU KNOW? Unlike synthetic fibers, wool is fire retardant. Up until recently, the blankets firefighters used to rescue people from burning buildings were made of tightly woven wool. This is because wool will only burn if it is held on a flame and immediately stops burning if the flame is removed. Synthetics only need to be exposed to high heat before they combust (they don't even need an open flame) and will continue to burn even after being removed from the heat source. This makes synthetics HIGHLY DANGEROUS for infant bedding and clothing (if they're around smokers) because burning synthetics will actually melt right onto skin and continue to burn even after the flame has gone out.
Wool can be stretched up to 1/3 longer than it's resting length and still snap back into shape!
Wool is a 100% renewable resource that does not require chemicals or consumable energy to produce!
Superwash wool can be machine washed and dried without worry, making it easy care - perfect for infant wear & blankets!
With all the advances in sheep breeds (like Merino and Blue Face Leicester) plus the greater availability of specialty fibers like Alpaca, the days of "scratchy" wool are over!
Books I Recommend
Lovely children's books! All the illustrations are made of felted wool! Unique gifts!!
Chronicles of the Lazy Knitter: Tah Dah! New Look!
Tah Dah! New Look!
I admit when I started my day, changing my blog appearance was not on the agenda! However, something really strange happened after my last post. Even tech support said they had never seen anything like it! Apparently my blog text (what you're reading) was supposed to be Bold Black as part of the built-in structure of the template. It hasn't looked like that, as you well know, since I started using it. Today, it reverted to what it should have been all along. The result was very unpleasant to read, as anyone who dropped in this morning found out! Personally I couldn't stand it, so I tried to find a template with a similar layout that was easier on the eyes. This was the best I could come up with. True, the text is still bold but at least it's a soft grey and I tried to switch from my favorite font to something a little less dense without success. I suppose a little freshening-up mid-February isn't so bad, just unexpected. I hope the interface and I can get along - it's just SO time consuming to have to tweak everything on a new template.... sigh!

I like the new look. I don't comment much, but I do check in. Gotta say I'm not crazy about the header; that font is tough on the eyes. Reply to this

Thanks Ellen! Like most ready-made things, it isn't always perfectly pleasing .... I think that's why we knit & spin, isn't it? LOL!!

Washing llama...are you wanting to keep the lock structure? If not, I'd just wash it in the tub. Reply to this

Yeah, looks fresh. I'd like to get a new look for my blog as well, but it's so time consuming.
