Pinwheel Sweater Progress - Sleeves

Because of my Spinner's Block over the Clematis Vine I've been knitting in "Me" time instead of spinning. This has translated into significant progress on the Pinwheel sweater. As I mentioned before, I had diligently measured and then finished the button band and cast off. Then I tried it on. Here's a recent shot:

Yes, the colors are bad, but never mind that. Anyone who has actually knit one of these should spot the problem almost immediately. For everyone else, I will elucidate. Since I have never knit one of these before I have been fairly faithful to the pattern. The only issue seems to be stitch count. I have an older version of the pattern because it has been updated since and broken down into separate patterns for children & adults. My pattern reads to cast off when there are 43 stitches between the increase markers. That came to about an inch after the sleeves on my sweater, thus I've been measuring! The only problem is that I'm used to measuring the distance from sleeve seam to 2" past center chest for a rectangular front cardigan. This is a circle. So when I tried it on it DID overlap 2 inches on my center chest - for about 3 inches!! LOL!! It was one of those "uh huh" moments!! Chin on chest I took it off, pondering....
I have no other choice but to rip out the button band and add about another 6 inches to the diameter - just not yet. Since I have it off the needles I thought I'd take the opportunity to do the sleeves. It's enough of a chore as it is without the added bulk of the full size circle! Plus, it will give me time to track down another 36"cirular needle to replace the one I broke! So I've finished one sleeve and am about 2/3 finished the second. Strange how every variegated yarn has a tendency to pool at a given number of stitches at a certain gauge. Well I found that magical place for this Tahki Bunny Print yarn - on the end of my sleeve!! LOL!!

The only annoying part is that I really like it. Gosh I hope the other sleeve ends up looking the same. I'll be really choked if the other balls knit up different than this one did! D'oh! As you can see the colors of this shot actually look like the sweater! And the browns I used for accents are complimentary and don't actually stick out like sore thumbs! LOL! Ah! The fun never ends!!
