While-I'm-Waiting Project

Such a busy week! Such a looong day! DH & I had several Dr appointments = time to waste waiting. I decided I didn't want to take ANY current WIPs along. I wanted something new & mindless I could pick up and put down without a thought. What fits that bill better than a toque? I decided to use some of my handspun superwash in a color called Deep Sea. A lovely 3-ply DK on 4.5 mm circs. I used Jared Flood's Turn a Square pattern from  a link on Smokin' Hot Needles blog (thanks Monika!!). I liked it because it's a tidy little hat with stripes. And when I arrived in the first waiting room I discovered I had left the yarn for the stripes at home! Grrrrr! The Deep Sea yarn is slightly variegated so it didn't turn out too boring but it's not quite as nice as the original plan - sigh! By the end of the day I had almost finished it. When I got home I decided I could at least stripe the last part, where you do the decreases so it's not totally plain. All-in-all I was satisfied. It's such a pleasure to knit with your own handspun, especially when it's a fairly consistent weight and the fiber is soooo nice! It helps me have more confidence when I spin because 3-ply yarn is more forgiving of inconsistent singles than 2-ply and this lot was actually pretty good - no ultra-thin spots or huge lumps - quite a thrill indeed!!
