I Just Need a Little Elbow Room!

DS#2 has a large oak desk in my office where he spends most of his weekends studying. That means (usually) Monday to Thursday, I "borrow" space on it:

Let's see now.... left to right, counter clock-wise - my cabled Finn sheep sweater and one sleeve, Ann Budd's Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns, Harmony Aran stitches book, the second sleeve, grey/blue Willy Nilly Pi Shawl yarn from Wild Geese Fibres, brown & orange Pinwheel Sweater in basket, natural ecru Cotswold skeins in bag, also from Wild Geese and 4 cakes of Finn yarn (2 full cakes, 2 half used). I think you get the idea that Friday morning I need to do some pretty furious and fancy stowing.... LOL!!
I admit this mess was partly due to the fact that I had been knitting so long on the parts of the Finn sweater I couldn't remember how to put them together. I also changed gears slightly (mid-pattern, no less - trust me! ha!) with my thinking. I had originally planned to make an Elizabeth Zimmerman style yoke sweater but with all the cables going on I couldn't fathom how to do a 50% decrease all in one round without the pattern suddenly becoming binary-code-clear so I switched to a raglan-style decrease pattern from a different chapter. As it turned out the stitch count was the same, just the method was different.(Phew!) And just to add a little flair I decided to do the decreases on either side of a 6 stitch cable. I figured it would be a nicer way to finish the pattern edge than just blunt decreases - I mean, hey, there are already 20-some cables, what's 4 more?? LOL!!

The end result being that my sweater is now attached at the underarms. Strange how it always looks like a dress for a 5-year old at this stage! I can assure you it isn't! In fact I seem to have become so cable obsessed that I've added 3 inches to it over the weekend! Maybe I really WILL finish before Christmas!! Woot!
Oh, the Wild Geese yarns? Not quite sure yet ... but they're sitting around within easy fondling distance - eventually they'll whisper to me what they want to become... whatever it is, it will most likely be for ME! Cheers!

Your sweater looks great already! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that it will be finished, once the cold weather starts.
