Cabled Sweater Progress

I'm making good progress on my Cabled Sweater. I have finally come down to a 3.5mm circular needle so the gauge is now back where it belongs and the sweater diameter is a respectable size 40-42 again - sigh! All I can say is thanks to my last sweater I have learned the importance of measuring things besides just the length of the work in progress!

It is, of course, pulled in because of the circ so it won't have the poodle-skirt flair it does in the pic. The lacey bottom will be just gorgeous once it's blocked out, I just know it! This Finn sheep wool from Wild Geese is such a dream to knit with - SO soft!

I want to show you a close-up of the cable pattern. I thought it was so cool! Instead of the usual seed or moss stitch filler in the diamonds, this one has garter stitch and ribbing to make textured stripes that run horizontal and then vertical. It adds a unique touch. When I was first putting this combination together I contemplated making it four or five diamonds wide instead of three. Now that I'm knitting it I'm GLAD I decided that less is more! LOL!! There's enough pattern to keep me on my toes and enough plain stockingette that it's a relaxing knit! I'd probably have more done but it's such a busy time of year! I seem to be pulled in too many different directions! Next post I hope to have a surprise for you.....
