"Spoil Me" Parcel

I was congratulating myself the other day that I have been pretty good about the 'no more yarn or fiber' acquisitions for 2008.... until I went to Dog Lover's Yarn... She opened an Etsy shop a while ago and I have admired her hand dyed sock yarns for quite some time now. Since "sock" yarns are not my favorite weight it has been fairly easy to resist the temptation.... however, she has now taken up spinning (yay!) and dyeing roving (wow!) and she recently listed one of her hand dyed lots in her Etsy store (link is on her blog). To make a long story short it was superwash merino in my favorite colors ... and she also dyed some worsted weight superwash and since I had a parcel coming anyways, I thought, hey, it makes the postage a better value .... (unhuh.... keep talkin' girl, keep talkin'....) Two days later - voila!

As you can see, with colors, I have learned that "less is more" sometimes. I think the biggest reason I bought it, besides the aforementioned, is as a bit of a reward for sticking to the confetti which has turned into a much bigger job that I first thought, mostly because I really underestimated just how much fiber there really was in the bag. Of course, now that I can actually SEE the bottom of the bag I am immensely relieved that I didn't buy more of it when I had a second chance to! It has been pleasant enough to spin but I know I have more than enough for the cardi I had in mind. With only one more bowlful to go I'm already thinking about my next spinning victim ... I mean project!
I keep looking longingly at the gorgeous stuff in Dyed in the Wool's Etsy shop (see my sidebar) but I keep reminding myself about my little cedar chest all stuffed with goodies so looking is all I can do....
And speaking of victims, I had a minor disaster yesterday - my last Jumbo bobbin broke! My Lazy Kate fell on the floor and I didn't think anything of it since it only fell about a foot. Last night, though, when I went to change my full bobbin for the last empty one I found the end had snapped off!! I was in such a dither I didn't even think of taking a pic until after I glued it! I used some very good quality carpenter's glue since it was a very jagged break. I'm hoping there's enough surface area to get a fairly sturdy bond - but I'm not deluding myself. Even if I do use it I'll have to be careful not to use that end for the drive band. I don't know how much torque is exerted by the spinning/braking torsion so I won't be surprised if it comes apart, sigh! So now it looks like I'll have to do some plying before I'm finished spinning so I have some empty bobbins to spin onto! Work, work and more work! hrrrmmph! Don't kid yourself! It's a wonderful life!
