White Wicker Blanket Triumph!

DD #1 finished a project for me that I started 4 years ago! A crochet blanket for my bed called White Wicker. I had scooped a huge bunch of Naturelle New Zealand chunky in Oatmeal for 1.99 a 100 gm ball! It was so plush and lofty I just had to make it up into a blanket. I loved the Aran-look of White Wicker and loved the pattern even more in the natural Oatmeal color but my nasty tendon problems eventually prevailed and I only got about 14 inches into the blanket before I had to put aside crochet. So it sat in one of my favorite baskets for years. About 3 weeks ago DD #1 was going round the bend trying to crochet some socks. She frogged them 4 times and finally put the project in "time out". She was feeling pretty discouraged, especially since DD #2 had succeeded so well with her socks .... so I suggested she consider working on a project that was already half done (OK so I exaggerated...).
Being a real whiz with the hook it didn't take her long to memorize the stitches and burn through ball after ball (about 40 or so). She did whine a lot that she was being bland-ed to death with the Oatmeal but she soldiered on. I let her stop two nights ago when it was 6 feet long. It went right from photo shoot to my bed! I've waited SOOOO long for it - squooshy plushy comfy soft!!!! Oooooooo! Made with love to boot!
No surprise that once her project basket was empty she plunged into the brightest color blended yarns in her stash and started another rainbow gypsy blanket.......

Wow! That is quite a project. I can see how it would take time to knit!

Crocheted blankets amaze me though, and make me wish I was handier with a hook. lol

I'm SO proud of her! Crochet is truly an art, not just the last refuge of yarn-loving non-knitters! LOL!! It's worth trying - you'll surprise yourself!

I'm speechless! O.K. a few words. This blanket looks wonderful! I can't believe her perseverance, on the other hand, both your daughters have shown how excellent they are with hooks! I love the color too, even though it must have been hard to stick with it, its so large! Give her a hug again, she deserved it! :o)

My pleasure! Your kind words mean a lot to her. She know how much I love it - but then I'm "mom". Hearing it from others helps her see it really IS beautiful! Thanks!
