Another Quick Knit Project

Don't know if you have seen our weather lately but we've had quite a few weeks so far this winter with daytime highs in the MINUS double digits! Couple that with wind chill and it makes for not very nice weather to work outdoors! My DS has been managing to keep warm but the other day the wind chill was a bit much and he got a touch of frost-bite on his ears. This prompted a phone call to yours truly and it was needles to the rescue!
All he really needed was something thin and lightweight to hold his ears next to his head. Even a little airspace between the head and the ears makes a place for the cold air to circulate. Since he has to wear a hard hat all day the thinner the better so it won't affect the fit of his safety gear.
I had some alpaca/merino in brown from Wild Geese Fibers left from the Dubbelmossa so I knit him a shaped headband. Such soft, soft yarn! I was so pleased to use it for him! I used 3.25mm needles and 24 stitches for the wide part. A 3-stitch garter stitch edge to keep it from curling and I narrowed it to 16 stitches for the band. Not a spectacular project to be sure, but it fits the bill. A nice snug fit that won't affect his hearing either! (Did I mention alpaca and wool are fire retardant too? That makes it safety gear as well as winter protection!)
