Dubbelmossa Is Done!!

Hooray! I finished something!! Maybe it's because January is over - but I finished the Dubbelmossa! I'm SO proud of myself!! And on top of that I enjoyed it right to the end!! I am inclined to hit the I-can't-stand-looking-at-this-project-anymore hump and it becomes my incentive to get something off the needles but it isn't a nice way to end any relationship - really! I wanted to immortalize those last few stitches on 3.25mm Bamboo DPNs.......... a much more sentimental way to bring the love affair to a close!

Although such small needles aren't usually my first choice when selecting any pattern, I think it was the yarn that endeared this project to me - 70% Alpaca 30% (ultra-soft) Merino in natural cream & brown from Wild Geese Fibers. It was like picking up a downy cloud every time I worked on it. What can I say? Well, it also helped that the pattern was from an Elizabeth Zimmerman video. How could I resist?

Now anyone who's seen the video or read the book with this project knows all about  their jogless colorwork technique for knitting in the round. Suffice it to say I didn't exactly 'master' it but at least the beginning if my rounds isn't glaringly noticeable either. The pen at the left points to the jog. OK probably only a C+ for this knitting class but I love the hat anyways!! LOL!!

I'm grateful to my DS for modelling it. I promised no one would see his face (it's a teenager thing). The first shot shows only the white cap end folded inside so it's only double thickness. The second shot shows it folded all the way inside which means the first row of checkerboard at the bottom disappears as well as the hearts but it's quadruple thickness and is plush-toasty warm!
Ya, I even put on the tassle.... let me begin by explaining I grew up in the Okanagan in B.C. where you wear running shoes 12 months out of the year and only real GEEKS wore touques. And DORKY GEEKS wore them with pom-poms. Suffice it to say that my anti-pom-pom bias lives to this day so I had to really dig deep to overcome my geek-revulsion to put on the tassel. EZ would be SO proud! Ha ha ha ha!

I feel pretty stupid, because I thought Dubbelmossa is a vest. But it's not! It's a fabulous hat! The tassel is needed, I assure you. It wouldn't be right without it. WEll done, it's a wonderful project finished. :o)
