Stash Enhancement 2008 Has Arrived!

After enjoying almost a month long sojourn at Canada Customs my totally frivolous self-indulgent yarn splurge for Discontinued Brand Name Yarns has arrived!
Now ............ before we get to the pictures let me begin by saying I did NOT purchase ALL these skeins New Year's Eve at their January Sale!   What you are seeing is my entire "sock" yarn stash except for the luxury sock yarns I bought from Wild Geese Fibers - OK? :d I put the word sock in " " because very little of this is actually sold as sock yarn. In fact I am determined to own as little "sock" yarn as possible because it's as thin as human hair, you knit forever to make an inch of fabric and it doesn't make real socks that will keep your feet warm. (That's just my opinion, okay? I know lots of people love it...) Most of this is worsted weight or DK weight so I should be able to use 3mm - 4 mm DPNs.

First pic from left to right: Wool in the Woods 'Cherub' in Sugar Maple & Dusk, Cherry Tree Hill 'Super Sock DK' in Cherry Blossom & Caribou Creek, Wool in the Woods 'Cherub' in African Grey

From left to right: (All Wool in the Woods 'Twin Twist')  Tropical Storm, Indian Summer, Misty Moore

I am absolutely certain that Dusk (grey & lilac) and African Grey on the far right are NOT the same yarn even though they are labeled as 'Cherub'. Dusk is a mondo-soft brushed yarn and African Grey is a firmer twist, smooth yarn. Caribou Creek didn't come out worth a darn in this pic - it's dark reds, deep maroon with hints of gold - soft and my almost favorite weight.

This is all Wool in the Woods. Across the top 'Wilkinson' (boucle) in Blues & Greens and Blues, Purple, Black which I'm thinking will make really terrific warm socks - nice looking too!
Bottom left to right: 'Bobcat' in River Run, Martha's Vineyard and Misty Moor. I was particularly pleased with Wilkinson because it's 100% wool but has such a glossy smooth 'thread' of wool in the center it's really pretty.

Now this eye-popper  is Supersock DK - almost an entire pound of it! I like the yarn but obviously the dye job leaves much to be desired - like harmony! The green just doesn't do it for me..... Would you believe the color is supposed to be "Chocolate Cherries" ??? Anyways, this lot has an appointment with the dye-pot as soon as it's not 40 flippin' below outside - like maybe May .... I also hear June also may be above freezing ....
I took about 10 pictures of this yarn in various lights and distances before I had one that vaguely resembles the actual colors of deep red, sort of pink, dirty browny green and ugly light emerald green. For this one I was about 10 feet away standing on a chair. I put the skein in the shade of my office chair and it actually doesn't look like screaming-neon-everything. Then of course I had to crop the picture - a lot! But .... I think I finally have that demon camera beat!!   :>

Wow thats quite a collection you've got going there, and all of them are really nice looking yarns too! I think my fav is the sugar maple and dusk...I like funky shocking socks. I can buy white and black at walmart, when I make 'em I want 'em to be totally unique!!!

Glad your package finally arrived. Have fun!

That's a LOT of yarn! I think Canadian Customs worker love fiber of any kind. They can hardly part with it. I'm waiting too ....

Gorgeous! I am now suffering from serious fibre envy. What colour are you going to use to overdye that one skein? Usually green and orange are lovely, but not those shades. Green chocolate???? Ugh.

Actually Barb, I REALLY hate the green! I'm going to test-dye a bit to see if I can get it to become a nice purple or burgundy maybe. The red/burnt pink are actually quite nice. I can't imagine what possessed someone (crystal meth maybe?? LOL!) to dye it that shade of green! It's really really ugly!
