Self-Striping Sock Yarn

I cast on a sock this week with the yarn I dyed. The basic plan seems to have worked fine, as far as striping goes. I can't say I'm over the moon about the color but this is a learning process, I guess. I think my next attempt at dyeing self-striping yarn will be all in the same color family, like 3 different complimentary shades of red. Anyways, here is the sock so far;

I am using 2.75 mm Hiya Hiya needles. They are smaller than the needles I used for the last socks I made with yarn from Wild Geese Fibers and I find the fabric is a bit firm. I know it will soften with washing  but maybe I'll just use these for work-type socks since I'm not so crazy about the color...

    Yeah, the contrasts of colour are a bit wild, but also very bright. So why not, it's summertime. But I agree that colours in the same shade is more relaxed to the eyes.

    I love it! The wilder the better. The contrast really makes the colors show up well. I'd wear those colors proudly. How long were your color repeats? I've dyed yarn but I'm a chicken when it comes to dyeing for self-striping.

      The Turquoise is about 24" (the bright blue) and the rust and dark blue are about 44" to 48" long. Next time (oh gosh did I say next time?) I will probably use the same lengths but will be trying for a little tamer colors! Thanks for stopping by! Take care!
