Purple Cashmere Shawl

Last but certainly not least. I have cast on the Alberta Wheat Shawl from Wild Geese Fibers. It is a 3/4 Pi shawl and I love the design. I am using my treasured 50/50 cashmere merino in a royal purple. I have 4 whopping huge balls of it, approx 1200 yds each. The pattern calls for fingering weight but this is finer so I have decided to double strand it using a 5mm circ. This gauge seems to be just perfect for this yarn. It is producing a soft fabric that is about as dense as I feel is appropriate for this project.
I must say from the outset that I am not a huge fan of garter stitch as I have always seen it as a beginner stitch. Since I'm using my most expensive and treasured yarn I am planning to use some other type of textured stitch for the plain garter sections. I haven't selected one yet but I want it to be something I can do from memory and just 'knit'. It also has to be somewhat subdued as I don't want it to steal the thunder from the charted wheat lace sections.
I must say I am already enjoying this project. The yarn is a decadent pleasure to hold and shape and the pattern is making it into a real 'dream' shawl! Thanks ever so much Barb!
