Zen and the art of saving your sanity through knitting
Another blogger, Smokin' Hot Needles is more within my reach - I keep promising myself I will try her charted 2-color scarf pattern - I even have some lovely Lorna's Laces that I think would work great! Sooner or later...
She's a chatty prolific knitter who shares so much of her life, like a favorite Aunt.
Then there's Knit Circle 360. A friendly chatty blogger with a heart of gold, a gentle nature and a pleasant unpretentious writing style. Her projects are more my speed. Although my delusions let me believe I will one day complete a Bayerische sock the reality is, that triumph is years away! Ha! Ha! One of the sweetest inspirations I've had recently though, has come from this unassuming knitter. The whole idea of Zen knitting, just for the soothing rhythmic motion may not be really new to others but was to me! Things have been so hectic lately I've veered close to the edge of going completely bonkers on more than one occasion. So when I got a package of yarn from a favorite eBay seller last month, of course at an irresistable price, there were 4 balls of Sirdar Curly Wurly in it. I'm not a fan of novelty yarn, per se, but since I had won several yarn lots and this yarn was bargain basement price I thought "Why not?". It's really strange stuff too! Every inch and a half there is a tail that sticks out from the main strand - don't know how - and it's soft. It knits up a bit like 70's shag carpet only lightweight. I figured an open lacey stitch should produce something fluffy and cozy. There's not enough for a blankie but maybe a triangular scarf?
Well, as I zenned away I whizzed through the first 2 balls in no time over this last week. I did knit other things but truly I think zen knitting is the epitome of lazy knitting!! Certainly the cheapest and most private therapy you'll ever find!! I'll post the pattern stitch next if you want to give it a try!
And Ellen, my most sincere thanks! Amazing how the most simple things can be a great gift!
