Drop Stitch Shawl Completed!

After a rather intense week of yarn adventure deprivation I finally finished my drop-stitch shawl! That was really tough! Sticking to only ONE project for a whole week!! But I persevered and triumphed!! DD#2 pulled all the ladders for me from the dropped stitches and here it is! It is a generous size, larger than the pattern called for but surprisingly light because of the open-work. If you're going to make a shawl it should at least cover your lower back - which I suspect is the idea behind the time-honored triangular shawl - because it's the area most sensitive to cold next to the lower neck. (At least on me!!)
Did I enjoy this project? Well, it was interesting for a while, then it got boring. In addition, the concept was intriguing but the finished product certainly lacked refinement. When my oldest son saw it from the reverse side he thought someone had wrecked my knitting and wondered which one of his younger brothers was doomed....
I can't see myself ever making one again, even with better yarn. This was made with garden variety superwash wool and I don't think even a different color would improve my opinion. Besides, if I had better yarn I have superior patterns to use it on!!
Speaking of superior yarn, I am now ready to cast on my Jacob's Sheep shawl eeeeee! :o) I also changed my mind about the pattern (big surprise! I change my mind often!) I am going to use a free pattern from Lion Brand yarn's website; pattern #1111 Al-Pa-Ka Knitted Lacey Shawl. I like the shape better and because the Jacob yarn is more like worsted I think it will work better with a less hole-y stitch. Yes, of course I will have to buy more yarn as I only have 3 skeins ... funny I don't think I will cry about that!
Well, that's all for this week! Cheers!
