Trials and Errors continued

Finally! I can talk socks! I consider myself to be a method sock knitter. I tried a number of different patterns but didn't meet any real sense of accomplishment. Holes in the heel turns, too much/too little yarn at the end plus I hate picking up stitches for any reason, never mind gussets & flaps with holes along those edges too! (Remember I'm a LAZY knitter - I want to enjoy myself, not work!) Then I got "Crazy Toes and Heels" by Mary Ann Beattie aka Queen Kahuna. Toe-up is the only way for me now!! I can try the sock on a few times in the early stages and adjust the number of stitches so the fit is perfect. No, I don't only make socks for myself, but 3 of my children have feet the same size as mine so that makes measuring easier!! ha ha! I make her No Wrap Turned Heel using 2/3 of the stitches and the fit is superb! Sometimes I make a pattern/texture stitch on the top of the foot, sometimes not. It has given me SO much freedom! Now when I come across a sock pattern I like I just use the parts I like, whether it's a color combination, a texture or a special stitch. My preferred cast-on and heel are staples, like a tried & true frame so I know the sock will fit plus it will have the look that attracted me to the pattern in the first place.
